we started the day at laura’s moms place in new westminster. this was a house built in the 1870’s so it was filled with character and charm. it was fully furnished with that era’s style so that made it so unique and there were so many options. there were some old cars, a large stair case, not to mention secret doorways that led to a whole new level of bedrooms upstairs. we got some great detail and getting ready shots. than it was off to delta for the ceremony. the priest was something else…he started off with some great jokes while still keeping to catholic tradition. i always love the great lighting in catholic churchs, they have such large beautiful windows that let in glorious sunshine.
we went back to the house for the portrait portion of the day and i think we got some pretty stellar group shots and laura was so beautiful that i had a tough time putting the camera away. her and kurt were so relaxed and let me do my thing, which i love! almost all of the groomsmen i had met a year ago when i shot derek and sarah’s wedding at newlands golf and country club so it was a fun experience to know them all!
we finished off the day at the executive hotel in richmond. the food was great, everyone did a great job at speeches and you could just feel all the love for kurt and laura in the room!
thanks so much for letting me have a glimpse into your lives and family/friends and i hope you enjoy the photos!!
so kurt and laura were married this past saturday, oct 1st and when i woke up and looked outside it was so foggy i couldn’t see the mountains, i thought for sure we would be faced with rain but i think i felt only a few drops after the ceremony. we went to laura’s moms place in new west for photos and the rain never came 🙂 here are a few of my fav’s from the day with much more to come later…
i met kurt almost a year when i photographed his friends (derek + sarah) wedding and he was in the bridal party. i was very excited when i met with kurt and laura to discuss photographing their big day this october and have enjoyed getting to know them over the past few months.
we met at “the neck of the woods” vineyard in langley on one of the few nice days in june. we were the only ones there as it had just opened for the day so we had the run of the whole place. we were treated to a lovely wine tasting and had fun in the picnic area.
kurt + laura met through mutual friends and after dating and getting to know one another they realised how great of a match they were. they had planned a trip to bowen island where laura’s family has a cabin and were going with another couple. kurt and laura took an earlier ferry than their friends due to their working schedule. but shortly after laura arrived her girlfriend called to say that they actually couldn’t make it after all because her boyfriend had to work later than expected. while laura was on the phone, kurt was busy “setting” the scene. laura went outside to find candles lined up down the stairs and leading to the ocean where he had set up a table and chairs with champagne. he got down on one knee asked her to spend the rest of her life with him…of course she said yes! and it was a set up that her friends couldn’t make it…they knew of kurts plans in advance and were never actually going.
here are some of my favorites from their engagement session
